It really was an atypical course. I was pleasantly surprised and genuinely glad to have taken it. I see it as a bit of an electroshock, telling myself that I should read more, keep myself better informed and improve as a person (for myself, but also to be useful to society).

Your way of teaching hits hard, in the good sense of the term. You managed to hold the attention of an entire class from 9am to 6pm, and that is far from easy (collecting the phones at the start of class was a very good idea, by the way!).

The debates push us to concentrate, to take part and above all to listen to others and exchange with them. I think you learn a thousand times more that way than when you take notes off a slide automatically, even stupidly, sometimes without understanding what you are writing.

I also really liked the way you talk to us: direct, young and outside the usual academic frame. That difference catches the attention and makes us want to listen to you. So thank you for not being like all the other teachers we come across throughout our instruction (our instruction, not our education, haha).

Your sense of humor suits you very well. Your messages are clear, pragmatic, neither shocking nor too vague — while getting everyone to think.

I think your course is my favorite in this school (I did the BBA before the MS). Usually the course format is boring, even when it tries to be interactive: it’s always the same courses, just with different names.

Yours, on the other hand, was naturally interactive, the whole class listened to each other and was captivated. That’s its great strength.

The other great strength is its subject (Social Intelligence). Personally, I’m interested in personal development, psychology and sociology. So I’m very happy to have finally been able to attend a course dealing with these themes. I find it a shame that only 8 hours were devoted to your course, and far more to certain others that are pure bullshit.

The way you are is also an asset, because we’re in a snooty little microcosm where fake kindness is constantly held up as the rule. So having someone honest and direct is a real plus.

  1. The exercises were particularly engaging, and I really enjoyed the discussions with the members of my group. It was also a pleasure to collaborate, to share our opinions and to build a logical line of reasoning together to reach a decision. All the more so since we all come from different cultural backgrounds. And listening to the experiences and viewpoints of the other students considerably broadened my perspective.
  2. On top of that, your teaching style really caught my attention: I was actually able to focus on the content. I think that comes down to 3 things:
    • the slides favored visuals over long blocks of text, which made me listen carefully to your explanations;
    • the topics covered were interesting.
    • plus, the interactive format of the course proved very effective.
  3. Confiscating the phones was also very beneficial (it made me realize, once again, how addicted I am to digital devices).

I think your course is my favorite in this school (I did the BBA before the MS). Usually the course format is boring, even when it tries to be interactive: it’s always the same courses, just with different names.

The other great strength is its subject (Social Intelligence). Personally, I’m interested in personal development, psychology and sociology. I think it’s a shame that only 8 hours were devoted to your course and far more to certain others that are pure bullshit.

Your way of being is an asset too, because we’re in a stuck-up little microcosm where fake kindness is constantly preached. So having someone honest and direct is a real plus.

This kind of class is very rare. Personally, it’s the first time I’ve seen anything like it since I started school. And yet it’s a teaching method that — normally — should be used in every discipline, because it’s pure BSP (“bon sens paysan”, plain farmer’s common sense, an expression we use a lot back home in Normandy).

The downside of remote classes is mainly listening to the teacher explain things with no real interaction. Our concentration takes a beating very quickly! Coming from Canada, I found the structure of the courses at SKEMA a little odd. But as for your course, it was perfectly coherent, given the usual standards. Personally, I found it interesting and not at all boring.

I find that courses with an intercultural angle often tend to be somewhat biased or more focused on one particular country or region, depending on the professor. That wasn’t the case with you.

As for your course, it’s the most interesting one I’ve had so far. I really liked the interactive format between you and the students, but also the materials, with diagrams, explanations and case studies that let us think through real problems in real time.

It was also interesting to be able to test our ideas against those of students from other cultures; you played something of a mediator role, which is valuable, because in student projects it’s rare for debates to be as peaceful and constructive as the ones we took part in during your course. I would really have liked to go deeper into this subject.

As for the exam: first of all, I once again liked the case studies, which make it possible to assess our skills and our thinking. The other exams in the second year of the Master’s are sometimes too focused on theories we’ve seen and seen again for five years and that are (or should be) already mastered at Master’s level, so the hands-on side of your exam was a pleasure.

Finally, I follow your blog, which is a good resource for those who wish your course had gone on longer.

Honestly, I found the course interesting and in step with what’s going on right now. The part on economic intelligence and intercultural matters now lets me handle my personal and professional relationships far more effectively.
